Many women tend to experience heartburn symptoms when they are still carrying their babies, and this happens for several reasons.

One of these is the increase of hormones in the women’s body while they are pregnant. The occurrence of this will result in softening the ligaments which function is to keep the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) firmly closed. When the LES rests at unsuitable periods, tendency is, this will let the gastric acid and food to reflux back to the esophagus and throat.

One more reason of experiencing heartburn during pregnancy is because the changes in the body and the development of the baby creates more pressure in the women’s stomach. Therefore, the stomach contents are forced right into the LES, and then to the esophagus.

However, there are several methods that a pregnant woman can observe to lessen the discomfort brought by heartburn. The following are good advices, although this may not remove the heartburn totally:

• Avoid the food that triggers heartburn. Examples of this are chocolates, spicy foods, citrus fruits and juices, mustard, tomatoes and tomato based products, fatty foods, fried foods, and highly seasoned dishes. Try to refer to medical specialists to know the complete list of foods to avoid Acid Reflux. Also, for foods that you may take which contains little danger of causing heartburn.

• Get rid of drinks that have caffeine, like tea, coffee, and soda. Too much of these will cause the LES to relax and let the acid to return into the esophagus.

• Stay away from alcohol beverages. This, like caffeine tends to relax the LES thus, creating the same effect-triggering heartburn.

• Avoid eating large meals. It is suggested that taking numerous small meals throughout the day will be better.

• Avoid rush in eating your meals. Chewing food thoroughly will really help in avoidance of heartburn, so better take your time in eating.

• Rest for at least three hours after having your last meal before taking your sleep.

• A pregnant woman is advised to take more glasses of water a day, at least 8 to 10 glasses, though this must be taken not just during meals. Through this, the stomach will expand, and then the LES will be given more pressure, obliging it to open inappropriately. Hence, it is really recommended to drink more water and other fluids in between meals.

• When sleeping elevate the head of the bed for at least six to eight inches. Try to sleep with an elevated head and shoulders through a wedge pillow. Through this, the gravity will work as much that it will keep the acids in your stomach in their place-in the stomach, not in the esophagus. Try to consult physicians to gain additional knowledge on how to relieve nighttime heartburn.

• Don’t wear tight fitting clothes. Tightness around the waist and stomach will trigger heartburn as it causes uneasiness.

• When bending, do it at the knees, not at the waist. This will avoid in creating too much pressure in the stomach.

• Don’t slouch; rather sit erect in a relaxing chair.

• Maintain a sensible amount of weight, too much weight and fatness will give more stress in your stomach. As a result, this will force stomach contents throughout the LES and to the esophagus. Stay with your doctors guidelines.

• Avoid smoking. Doctors stated that smoking could cause several effects to a pregnant woman, much that it can add to the possibility of experiencing heartburn.

During pregnancy many women may experience pain in their chest or heartburn. This condition is more common during the first trimester of a woman’ s pregnancy. Preventing this conditions or curing them is very important in general and especially during pregnancy.

As the baby starts to grow during pregnancy, the pressure exercised on your internal organs increases. The food ans acid reflux from the stomach also increase and these are the main causes of a heartburn. Here are some of the most important steps that you can follow during pregnancy to relieve the symptoms of a heartburn, control the pain that you are having and maybe even prevent recurrence of these conditions:

- while pregnancy, do not limit yourself to three big meals; on the contrary, try to eat four five lighter meals so your body can digest the food and thus prevent heartburn;

- to prevent these conditions, even if you have cravings during pregnancy, try to stay away from foods that can cause a heartburn, such as: fried foods, fats, chocolate, citrus fruits or caffeine;

- the risk of acid reflux during pregnancy can also be reduced if you avoid eating just before you go to bed; if possible try to eat a couple of hours before you go to sleep so your body can digest the food;

- during pregnancy your body will go through a lot of changes and clothes that you bought just a few weeks back might not fit you anymore; in this case, give them away or throw them, but do not wear clothes that are tight especially during pregnancy; besides the fact that wearing them can cause heartburn or acid reflux, it can also damage the health of your baby;

- alcohol, smoking are very harmful for any person and especially for a woman during pregnancy; avoid them as much as possible;

- do not take any medication against a heartburn until you have asked your doctor; pregnancy is a very delicate time and every drug that you take can affect your baby;

Even if every pregnancy differs from a woman to another, these are some of the most important steps that you can follow to prevent or at least control your condition. When it comes to the causes of a heartburn or acid reflux, these too can be very different from a pregnant woman to another. Pregnancy is sometimes a difficult period and you must be very careful in the choices that you make.

For more inforamtion about ectopic pregnancy please visit teenage pregnancy or http://www.pregnancy-1st-guide.com/

Heartburn is a common pregnancy problem. Many women who have not experienced it ever before tend to experience it at least when they get pregnant. When you are pregnant, if you sense a burning feeling in your throat and chest, if you sense a sour acidic taste in your mouth, blame it on the heartburn you are experiencing just now. There a number of reasons why one experiences heartburns when they are pregnant. When you are pregnant it is natural that your higher levels of hormones will soften the ligaments that usually help to keep the LES which is a sphincter inside the throat tightly shut so the acids in your stomach do not rise upwards. But when the LES is relaxing it is understandable if the acids shoot up to your esophagus and throat due to the different bodily changes and growing baby inside. Contents in your stomach can also be raised to the throat during these moments of heartburn. It is nearly impossible to eliminate the problem of heartburn completely but there are some measures you can adopt to reduce the trouble.

Try and avoid food that might trigger your heartburns. Products like citrus fruits, chocolates, tomatoes, juices, vinegar, mint, mustard, spices, and fries are strict no-nos just in case you are suffering from heartburns. Caffeine based drinks too instigate heartburn attacks. Try to stay off coffee, tea, cola because not only do they contain caffeine, they can also relax your LES muscles, causing the fluids in your stomach to rise to the esophagus. In this context, let us tell you that alcohol has similar effects on the esophagus so try keeping off alcohol as well if you want to save yourself from heartburns. Big meals also cause digestive problems so eat smaller meals instead, and have them at regular intervals. That way too you can avoid heartburns. Learn to eat slow and steady so your meals get enough time to get chewed and swallowed well. When food finds it tougher to get digested they tend to cause heartburns. There should be at least 2 hours between your dinner and your bed time to make sure that when you lie down you food does not get that urge to move upward than to stay where it is meant to stay.

Water is the solution to a lot of problems. During pregnancy you are supposed to be drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday. However make sure you take enough fibers too so that the fluids get absorbed. Too much of fluids might put pressure against your LES! Make sure your head is on an elevated place as compared to your body while sleeping. If you are sued to sleeping without a pillow, maybe sleeping on a pillow would be slightly helpful now. Loose clothing which will allow your body to get aired easily is also helpful. When you bend to pick things up, try to bend at the knees instead of the waist so you avoid putting pressure on your stomach and provoking yet another heartburn. And finally, eve though it is quite natural to feel gluttony when you are pregnant, try to control your eating; too much food is never too good for your health!

This year, 15 million Americans will suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. It may start with a particularly uncomfortable burp and leave a restricted feeling in the chest. Some will toss and turn at night, coughing and inhaling excess acid.

The next day, they’ll feel lethargic and asthmatic. Symptoms of acid reflux may be indicative of bigger problems like a poor diet, lactose intolerance or digestive failure. Treatments for acid reflux vary, but the good news is that it’s not something with which one has to suffer.

If you want to find the best treatment for acid reflux, then change a few bad habits. Most people don’t realize that all the kitchen cleaning after the meal contributes to acid reflux, or that laying down within three hours after eating can create a whole world of problems.

More than half of the people who suffer from chronic heartburn also have some form of “supine reflux,” which affects people in their sleep. For supine acid reflux sufferers, the symptoms can sometimes be subtle. They may toss and turn, have difficulty breathing, sweat profusely, have coughing fits and wake up feeling hoarse (from breathing in the stomach acids).

Most people also know that greasy and fatty foods are terrible for the digestive tract. Often the stomach needs to produce more acid to break down the greasy layers and protein-based food. Then, on top of that, some fatty foods are simply insoluble and they putrefy in the stomach, rotting and causing a build-up of “unpleasantries,” from gas to reflux.

It can be shocking to people when they’ve been able to eat certain foods their entire lives but as they age, those same foods become a problem. Citrus fruits like oranges, tomatoes, spearmint, peppers and red wine can all be nasty triggers for attacks.

The most common treatments are antacids. This heartburn medication will help sufferers treat the immediate symptoms of acid reflux for fast-acting relief. Hardcore antacids include Reglan and Gaviscon, which aim to improve overall digestive coordination, speeding up the digestive process and creating foam barriers to prevent acid from seeping up unexpectedly. There are often over-the-counter options that work just fine or prescription-based variants for the people with severe GERD symptoms.

The second category of heartburn medication is the Histamine 2 Receptors. Histamine 2 Receptors, like Pepcid AC or Zantac, work by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach, which is sometimes cited as a contributing factor.

For preventative measures, a third treatment includes Proton Pump Inhibitors, which suppresses excessive acid production during those big feasts. Drugs like Prilosec or Nexium are said to work best.

For the occasional sufferer, any drug store will carry a calcium carbonate like Tums, Rolaids or Maalox. These bind to and neutralize acid for immediate reprieve. A fourth treatment are the effervescent products (like Alkaseltzer), which comes in handy when that restrictive feeling in the chest and intense abdominal pain signals real digestive trouble.

While these methods might seem easy enough, the best treatment for acid reflux is to amend one’s diet and attack the culprit behind the heartburn symptoms. Occasionally, one will suffer heartburn because there is actually a lack of stomach acids and the necessary chemical triggers don’t signal the pancreas or the intestines to help out in the transport of waste and the absorption of nutrients. Spicy foods shouldn’t be a deal-breaker if one’s diet is packed with Omega-6, Omega-3, vitamins, minerals and leafy greens!

Is food your enemy? Are you sick of feeling guilty after eating one of your favorite foods, just because you get heartburn soon after? Consider this the end of these feelings. While there are many foods that cause heartburn, there are also many ways to prevent heartburn and extinguish the fire from within, before it even starts!

So it’s about 10 minutes after you left a nice restaurant, where you got the best meal in the house. You’re already getting that terrible burning sensation rising up your chest, and thus regretting the meal you just dropped $50.00 on. Heartburn is not fun. Period. However, while it is difficult at times to resist eating your favorite foods, heartburn has a cumulative effect, meaning that by knowing most all of the foods that cause heartburn, you can eliminate the ones you don’t care about as much, and continue to eat your favorites with less risk of heartburn. And so, the filter and resist method is born!

The main goal here is to ease the symptoms of heartburn by eliminating acid production in your stomach and soothing your irritated esophagus and digestive lining. In order to do this you must first filter the foods that cause heartburn that you don’t care about.

The main groups of these foods are:

- Spicy foods

- Coffee and carbonated drinks

- Tomatoes and high-acid citrus fruits

- Pasta

- Starches (especially fried)

- Sugar-filled snacks

- Fried meats

Now, of all these foods types, many of them also cause many other health problems, and you should use your heartburn as an excuse to turn them down. Talk about a blessing in disguise! The main foods to avoid here are fried starches, coffee and carbonated drinks, sugar and fried meats. Some of the others are staples, and cannot be avoided completely.

The above list in not complete by any means, but simply listing 100’s of foods would do you no good. However, this list is a good set to keep in mind, and by filtering out the specific foods that cause heartburn from that list that you don’t enjoy as much, you’re well on your way.

Now for the second step: resistance. This is the tough part. Say you love spicy foods, eating chicken wings or drinking coffee. By reducing the number of foods that cause heartburn in your diet, you have already taken care of part of the problem. At this point, you need to reduce the quantity of the foods you did not filter out of your diet. Simply eat less. If you love your cup of coffee in the morning, drink it. But stick with literally one cup, not five, and you’ll typically be fine. If you like wings, eat them on occasion, but get a salad with them to prevent you from eating more than necessary.

Here are some other quick tips for decreasing the chances of heartburn, even after you’ve used the filter and resist method:

1) Eat smaller, more frequent meals (5-6 per day)

2) Never eat within 2 hours of going to sleep

3) Enjoy vegetables, low-acid fruits and whole grains

By following these simple steps to reduce the foods that cause heartburn in your diet, you will be more comfortable and much healthier for life!

If you have heartburn you know there are certain foods that make your condition worse. That is why it is recommended that you have a heartburn food plan which outlines the food you can safely eat and avoid.

Heartburn happens when there is a reflux of liquid containing pepsin, to the esophagus and to the throat. The liquid that comes from the stomach is acidic, burning the lining of your esophagus. It this happens frequently, a visit to the doctor is recommended to help you cure this condition.

One of the things that are advised for you to do is, as mentioned, having a heartburn food plan. The ones you should avoid generally are those that are hard to be digested, since they put too much pressure on the stomach and the lower esophagus muscle, and those that can make the LES relax.

So what are the foods that cause heartburn? Take note of the following:

- Fatty food (cream, dairy products, mayo, butter and oil – in short, anything that is high in fat)

- Chocolate

- Coffee

- Spearmint and peppermint

- Alcoholic drinks

- Fruit juices like orange juice, lemon, lemonade, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice

- Caffeine

- Spices like onions and chili, as well as spicy food

- Citrus fruits

- Products which are tomato-based

- Baked food and desserts high in fat

- Junk foods

If there are foods to avoid, there are those that you can eat. These include:

- Food rich in complex carbohydrates

- Apples and bananas

- Steamed vegetables

- Baked potato

- Green leafy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, carrots

- Legumes and lentils

- Low fat food (that can be something like skinless chicken breast, or low fat fish, dressings, cream and dairy products – food that are low in fat are fine)

As you can see, spices, fatty foods, citrus, greasy foods, tomato-based foods and caffeine should be excluded from a heartburn diet. What you should eat, therefore, are those low in fat or baked.

An advisable way of keeping track of the safe food for you is by having a heartburn food record. This records all the food and drinks you ate and drank for the day, as well as the symptoms you felt, if any. When keeping a food journal, you should specify the type of food you are and how it was cooked.

Also, it is wise to keep a list of food and drinks that are safe and to be avoided and have it posted on your ref, for easier references.

When eating out, avoid those trigger food at all cost. It could be hard because there are many ingredients involved but you should ask for something baked or grilled instead of fatty or fried ones, for example.

Following a heartburn food plan is a must for every heartburn sufferer. While this means avoiding some of your favorites, I advise you to just replace them with something healthier that will not cause you any harm.

And for a natural treatment for acid reflux, I suggest you visit my review on a book that had helped thousands of other acid reflux sufferers cure their condition naturally.

Ease the Discomfort of Heartburn and Indigestion Let’s Get Heartburn and Indigestion Under Control.

Have you ever jumped up in the night, awakened by a sudden and nauseous burning sensation in the center of your tummy? Maybe you indulged in some overly spicy chili, or overdid it on those late-night leftovers. Heartburn and indigestion can be very cruel.

These hasty heartburn and indigestion solutions will alleviate your fiery stomach and help you get back to sleep!

Initially what you’ll want to do when you’re awakened by heartburn and indigestion pain is to get out of bed and stand up. This helps keep the acid at bay while you go and get a full glass of cool water.

Slowly drink the glass of water, and then proceed to mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and half a glass of water. Be careful though, if you have high blood pressure or are pregnant, this can bring on water retention or increase your blood pressure. This will help relieve your heartburn and indigestion.

Particular foods can affect nighttime heartburn and indigestion. These foods like soda pop or beverages with caffeine (not too good before bed anyway!), alcohol, garlic, chocolate (sorry!), citrus fruits, tomatoes and tomato-based products are high on the list. Avoiding this mode of food can help alleviate your heartburn and indigestion, if you regularly find yourself awakened with that excruciating burning!

Eating a banana every day operates similar to an antacid to soothe heartburn. If you’re already stricken with indigestion, eating pineapple or papaya (or drinking the juice) can help mend your stomach as expected.

If you think others would benefit from reading this article, pass it on to them.

How does this one sound? Some people also claim that eating a teaspoon of mustard (yuck!) can work without delay. If you like mustard go for it.

Keep away from eating, at least two hours prior to laying down for bed. Those late night refreshments can attack your stomach all night and prevent you from falling into a deep, restful sleep. Sleeping on your left side or at a somewhat upright angle can keep acid down where it belongs. This will decrease your chances of getting heartburn and indigestion.

Another way to help yourself from heartburn and indigestion is to eat small, frequent meals and chew your food slowly and thoroughly. Allow two or three hours to digest before going to bed or lying down

If you are awakened by heartburn on a regular basis or the pain is severe, or if you have heartburn with vomiting, you’ll want to consult your doctor immediately as it may be a sign of a more serious condition such as an ulcer. Above all, avoid spicy, fatty and caffeine-containing foods before bed, and you should be able to drift off to sleep easily.

Heartburn is very common, it begins with a burning sensation that starts in the abdomen and move to the chest. It often goes to the back of the throat and sometimes up to the jaw, arms, and back. It is caused by stomach acid washing up into the esophagus. The heart actually has nothing to do with heart burn; it is just the name it got from the sensations it creates.

Heartburn occurs mostly after eating a large meal or a meal with fatty or acid foods in it. Heartburn can also result after taking aspirin, drinking alcohol, smoking, and eating chocolate. Pregnancy, obesity, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and stress can also create heartburn. People who have GERD often get heartburn frequently.

Antacids are the most common treatment of heartburn. They can be found in tablets, liquid, or foams and in extra strength or regular formulas. They can provide practically instant relief from heartburn. They do not reduce any acid build up or feelings of fullness in the stomach. They have ingredients like aluminum hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, or calcium carbonate. Calcium can actually cause more stomach acid to build up so taking antacids with calcium is not going to provide relief for long. Sometimes antacids cannot be taken with other medications so check with you doctor. Some of those medications are iron supplements, aspirin, and steroids.

Most people lie to use milk to relief their heartburn. This is not a good antidote. Drinking a glass of milk can provide immediate relief as it is going down but the milk has calcium and protein in it. Calcium and protein can actually create even more acid production in the stomach. So in as little as a half an hour your heart burn has returned and it is more severe than when you drank the milk.

If you get heartburn frequently avoiding certain things can help to prevent it from reoccurring. Smoking, alcohol, coffee, and carbonated drinks can worsen heartburn and create it. Things like onions, tomato products, and citrus fruits can cause heartburn as well. Lying down to much can cause heartburn, even lying down after eating. Eating chocolate, mints, and peppermints can all cause heartburn. Anything spicy can cause heart burn, same with fatty foods. Losing weight if you are obese can make heartburn go away that was brought on by obesity. Medications like sedatives and aspirins can cause heartburn as well.

Some other things you can do to help your heart burn is place blocks under the head of your bed about 6 inches tall so that it makes an incline and you’re not lying flat. Eat 2 to 3 hours before you lie down, and don’t over eat. Avoid wearing belts and tight clothes.

Avoid drinks that are to hot or too cold. Find ways to reduce stress.

Another thing you can try is taking an herbal supplement. Heartburn Prevention by Renewal Life an advanced digestive enzyme supplement made for prevention of heartburn. It has betaine hydrochloride from beets and 3 different plant based digestive enzymes. The 3 digestive enzymes are protease, amylase, and lipase; they promote the digestion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The hydrochloric acid helps to prevent indigestion. This product can be found at Alternative Health Supplements and is all natural and safe for even vegans to use.
