Yes, there are certain natural ways to cure your heartburn. The question here is do they truly work as well as antacids and/or other heartburn medication? The answer is a positive yes, and if you opt to naturally cure your heartburn, you may not have to deal with another occurrence ever again.

Fact is antacids (and medications) are simply first aid treatments to cure your heartburn. In other words, both only work temporarily, as they merely neutralize the refluxed stomach acid. However, with prolonged and/or consistent use, antacids can be harmful to your health. Hence the warning labels stating “Do not take for more than two weeks”.

Surely, natural treatments are the best ways to cure your heartburn, as they work by restoring a healthy esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter. The following are some easy remedies to naturally treat acid reflux:

• Apples. When you feel an approaching attack in progress, you should eat a slice of an apple. One good idea is to slice an apple in the morning, then stick it in a Ziploc bag to go for the rest of the day.

• Avoid hard and crunchy food for the first 2-3 days of treatment. This will give you ample time to totally heal the esophagus and sphincter. It is also advisable to eat a spoonful of honey 3 times a day for these 3 days. Honey revitalizes tissue as it contains a naturally healing compound.

• Drink plenty of water. This will help keep the lower esophageal sphincter muscle flap tightly sealed over the stomach.

• Avoid eating too much. Eating more than necessary in one sitting tends to expand your stomach. Ideally, your meals should be the same size as your clutched fist.

It is also important to educate yourself on, at least, the basics of acid reflux to have a better understanding of the condition. This way, you will have much better chances to cure your heartburn.

Now, if you want to find out how you can get rid of your heartburn naturally, just click here now.

The smart people don‘t take heartburn lightly, they look for fast treatment. And why not? Pain isn’t something to be ignored. If you are carrying a pack of antacids you may think you have a heartburn treatment at hand. But aren’t the antacids an important symptom, themselves?

A quick background will give you a couple remedies for your own heartburn relief. Since the stomach plays an essential role in digestion of food this how you know what‘s going on.

Cells on the stomach wall secrete an acid, which helps to digest food – that is when everything works smoothly. But when the stomach regurgitates into the esophagus, causing the acid to come in contact with the esophageal wall, it creates a problem called gastric reflux. You can usually identify this symptoms like frequent chest pain, bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth.

Here are a few things you can try that will help bring heartburn relief. Keep in mind that there are many foods and other non dietary reasons for heartburn, which may make it difficult to find a cure that works for you. With a few easy to follow steps like these you should be able to find relief while you look for a heartburn treatment.

1) Drink milk – There has been a lot of controversy over whether milk helps with heartburn or makes it worse. Most people will find that cold, skim milk, which contains the same amount of calcium as regular and gives relief to gastric reflux. It’s the calcium that’s doing the work of neutralizing stomach acid.

2) Carbonated beverages – Generally these are on the list of foods to avoid if you suffer from acid reflux. But there is a big difference. While most colas are very acidic, and for that reason should be restricted. But try a club soda and see if it doesn’t help, there’s no phosphoric acid any of the other acids found in regular colas. A similar natural remedy, mixed with peppermint, another stomach reliever, has been used for stomach ailments since early history.

3) Big meals before bed – This is certainly not a good idea. The stomach has just started to work and you want to quit for the day. Sit upright or try standing, if possible. Even sitting in a lounging position is not helpful. Better yet take a leisurely walk after dinner to help with digestion.

4) Fitness helps – The body is a machine of sorts, keep it well tuned and it will in, turn, give you better performance. A good many physical problems can be corrected with a shift towards better fitness.

5) It‘s important to read the labels. Evaluate your intake of processed foods, caffeine drinks, alcohol, tobacco and sweets. You can help yourself in many ways, including relief from heartburn by restricting these products. Some have a direct effect by relaxing the LES which allows stomach acid to wash into the esophagus.

Long before the birth of science, people believed that illness was punishment for sins. If at times a heartburn attack seems like a punishment, you are probably right – at least for mistreating your tummy. But what to do?

If you want to go ‘chemical free’ in your quest to find a better heartburn cure, join the growing league who think a natural remedy is the way to deal with heartburn. Most heartburn can be improved or even cured. I have seen many success stories by those who put a plan on paper and with the help of a ’can do’ attitude succeeded. Natural remedies play an essential role the treatment of a heartburn cure.

Heartburn is such a common condition which many people associate with something they’ve eaten which is true in a lot of cases. However, for persistent heartburn sufferers, the problem goes a little deeper than that in fact, regular episodes, at least twice a week, could mean there may be something more serious going on.

Seeking the opinion of your doctor is a good first step but before we look at what you should discuss let’s take a look at what constant heartburn symptoms mean.

Symptoms Of Persistent Heartburn

Persistent heartburn means you are experiencing symptoms at least twice week and means something more sinister could be at play. Heartburn is a symptom of GERD and other tell tale signs include:

- difficulty swallowing

- food travelling back into the mouth after swallowing

- burning chest pain

- coughing and sore throat

Obviously seeking medical advice is the best alternative because unchecked, more serious complications could arise. Acid rising back into the esophageal can lead to serious damage overtime. Constant heartburn not treated could result in ulcers in the esophageal or stricture which means the esophageal narrows over time. Worst case scenario may be developing Barrett’s esophagus which in turn could result to esophageal cancer.

Lifestyle Changes

It’s human nature to not want to change a routine, particularly if you are enjoying it and this is why many people treat heartburn as just a common ailment which will pass. But let me ask you this… when you are experiencing an attack don’t you wish you had made an appointment to discuss the frequency of your attacks with him/her?

Remember, persistent heartburn at least twice a week and over a lengthy period of time unchecked could be really undermining your health. Your doctor can discuss and assess your condition and take the appropriate action. If you are still a little shy, try some lifestyle changes. Here’s a few to get you started:

- Consider the food you eat and try to isolate the food which seems to always correspond with an attack. Eliminate it from your diet.

- Watch what you drink. Coffee or alcohol for example. See if a heartburn attack follows the consumption of one or the other or both. If it does, cut it out or moderate.

- Don’t eat late night snacks particularly just before going to bed and preferably not within four hours of turning in.

- Watch your clothes…are they tight fitting? Bad sign for heartburn.

- If you r symptoms occur because of your sleeping position try elevating your head a few inches when you go to bed.

These are some common lifestyle changes normally associated with persistent heartburn and if you’ve tried them and your still experiencing frequent symptoms then you really should be seeing your doctor.

Persistent Heartburn Relief

If you suffer constant heartburn and are loathe to talk to your doctor, consider the risks without proper medical advice. Self diagnosis can be a dangerous past time particularly if the treatment methods used only treat the symptoms.

You have a number of medical medications available to you as apart from the common antacids, pump inhibitors and H2 blockers designed to prevent and neutralise acid production in the stomach, have proven effective. If your problem is a damaged esophagus then surgery options may need to be considered.

If you have noticed that you feel great before eating a meal but then suffer from a painful burning sensation in the throat or chest just below or behind the breastbone, after you have finished dining, you could be suffering from either heartburn or acid reflux symptoms.

Heartburn is one of the main symptoms of acid reflux and is usually associated with poor digestion. After eating foods that have high acidic content, heartburn sufferers may notice a burning sensation or pressure in the upper chest. The pain sometimes radiates to your neck or throat. Heartburn occurs when stomach acid comes back into the lower throat region, which happens because the lower oesophageal sphincter muscle or LES is not functioning, as it should. The LES is like a small one-way valve that lets food go into the stomach but prevents the hydrochloric acid produced by your stomach from coming back out into the oesophagus.

If you notice that any of the symptoms of heartburn seem to stay with you for long periods or come on after every meal or snack, the chances are that you could be suffering from acid reflux. Acid reflux symptoms can include persistent heartburn and stomach acid regurgitation although it is quite possible to have acid reflux without suffering heartburn.

Acid reflux normally occurs after eating certain foods such as tomatoes, onions, garlic, fried foods and citrus fruits. Other culprits include tea, coffee and fruit juice drinks. There are many other foods and drinks that can bring on acid reflux but what affects one sufferer may not bother the next person.

To find out what brings on acid reflux in your particular case, you will need to note down what you are eating and which meals and drinks cause the burning sensation in your throat and chest. Once you have figured out which meals cause the problem, try reducing your consumption of these foods one at a time. For instance, if you eat a ham salad and you end up with acid reflux after finishing it, try cutting out the onions from the next one. If that does not make any difference, do not include tomatoes in the next meal and so on. If you do not feel any improvement after this process of elimination, cut out all of these foods from your diet and monitor yourself for about a week to see how you feel.

There are other lifestyle choices that contribute to your acid reflux symptoms. Smoking, excess alcohol consumption and being overweight can all be contributing factors to acid reflux.

Many mothers-to-be experience acid reflux during their pregnancy even when they eat foods that do not normally cause them any problem. The advice if you are expecting, is to drink plenty of water, and refrain from drinking the likes of soda, orange juice, and coffee.

Rather than resorting to prescription medication, there are some things you can do yourself in order to reduce the symptoms you are experiencing. Taking a short walk after every meal and eating foods such as salmon or almonds that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids can be a big help. Avoid eating heavy meals such as lasagne and pizza or if you do, try to consume only small portions. If you know already that certain food or drinks trigger heartburn or acid reflux symptoms, the simple answer is to avoid those things completely.

Are there any heartburn natural remedies or are they just an embroidered collection of old wives’ tales? It’s certainly true that many of these supposed natural remedies are dismissed by many qualified medical practitioners as mumbo-jumbo and, in some cases, quite unlikely to have any beneficial effect.

Before discussing the antidote it might be as well to quantify the various causes of heartburn and indigestion which are not often disputed. Unquestionably, heartburn is the penalty we have to pay for our modern lifestyle. Many folk have become used to three king-sized main meals containing a liberal supply of fatty and spicy foods; often lubricated with a copious supply of alcohol and/or fizzy drinks laced with caffeine followed by two or three cups of coffee. Unfortunately, many of the foods suspected of causing heartburn are probably among our favorites and figure in large numbers in our staple diet. Add to these the twin evils of excessive smoking and obesity and there is little wonder that the Internet is awash with people of all nationalities seeking heartburn natural remedies.

It seems to be incontrovertible that the food we eat and a general lack of exercise contribute in no small degree to heartburn, so what’s the answer? We simply cannot just carry on downing antacids without altering the way we live. However, that’s not what folk want to hear about; therefore the search for a selection of heartburn natural remedies. Preferably those that allow us to eat and drink what we want and when we want.

There are two quite separate points of view about indigestion and heartburn natural remedies; those that need no medication of any kind as opposed to the lotions and potions classed by some as just old wives’ tales.

With a bit of willpower and some discipline you can be a healthier person by paying some attention to what you eat and when. For instance you can choose to have more, but smaller, meals spread throughout the day rather than gorging yourself three times daily. And, at the very least, if you cannot in the first instance do without spicy, fatty foods and caffeine, try to cut down quite drastically. Add to this a spot of walking for just 15 minutes five times weekly and you’ll be well on your way to a much healthier lifestyle and, all the more so, if you’re able to miss out tobacco. Change your way of life and heartburn and indigestion won’t trouble you to the same extent and if you add a little exercise you may well get rid of any stress you may have. Also, many people suggest that eating slowly and counting the number of times each mouthful is chewed will significantly improve digestion.

It’s a pity you can only go no further back than your grandparents because they and their forebears had not heard of prescription drugs. Many of the old-fashioned remedies sound rather bizzare to us but a few have been around for an awful long time and maybe worth a go.

One such is Slippery Elm Tea – first used by Native American Indians – which is an excellent digestive pick-me-up and eases any heartburn feelings. Another herbal remedy is licorice, especially DGL licorice (De-Glycyrrhizinated Licorice) which can be chewed and has a quite pleasant taste. Other natural substances with a big following include chamomile, cinnamon, cumin, fennel seeds, zinc and aniseed as well as clove water. One of more popular herbal healers is honey which is naturally anti-inflammatory and will quickly settle an upset stomach when combined with ginger in a cup of warm water.

Some of the more exotic heartburn natural remedies from different countries include an African heartburn remedy from the Congo, tangawisi. Tangawisi is a concoction of mango tree sap and crushed ginger. Or perhaps a bottle of mustard from France; said to have been a favourite of the early Spanish Conquistadors.

Acupuncture and acupressure have been popular in China for almost 3,000 years although not all the medical fraternity are yet convinced that these treatments serve any useful purpose although some professionals in the western world now recommend them.

It’s possible you might have a quiet chuckle at some of these remedies and conclude that you’d have to be desperate to consider some of them. On the other hand, if you really were desperate, it’s likely you might just try any one of heartburn natural remedies.

Many women tend to experience heartburn symptoms when they are still carrying their babies, and this happens for several reasons.

One of these is the increase of hormones in the women’s body while they are pregnant. The occurrence of this will result in softening the ligaments which function is to keep the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) firmly closed. When the LES rests at unsuitable periods, tendency is, this will let the gastric acid and food to reflux back to the esophagus and throat.

One more reason of experiencing heartburn during pregnancy is because the changes in the body and the development of the baby creates more pressure in the women’s stomach. Therefore, the stomach contents are forced right into the LES, and then to the esophagus.

However, there are several methods that a pregnant woman can observe to lessen the discomfort brought by heartburn. The following are good advices, although this may not remove the heartburn totally:

• Avoid the food that triggers heartburn. Examples of this are chocolates, spicy foods, citrus fruits and juices, mustard, tomatoes and tomato based products, fatty foods, fried foods, and highly seasoned dishes. Try to refer to medical specialists to know the complete list of foods to avoid Acid Reflux. Also, for foods that you may take which contains little danger of causing heartburn.

• Get rid of drinks that have caffeine, like tea, coffee, and soda. Too much of these will cause the LES to relax and let the acid to return into the esophagus.

• Stay away from alcohol beverages. This, like caffeine tends to relax the LES thus, creating the same effect-triggering heartburn.

• Avoid eating large meals. It is suggested that taking numerous small meals throughout the day will be better.

• Avoid rush in eating your meals. Chewing food thoroughly will really help in avoidance of heartburn, so better take your time in eating.

• Rest for at least three hours after having your last meal before taking your sleep.

• A pregnant woman is advised to take more glasses of water a day, at least 8 to 10 glasses, though this must be taken not just during meals. Through this, the stomach will expand, and then the LES will be given more pressure, obliging it to open inappropriately. Hence, it is really recommended to drink more water and other fluids in between meals.

• When sleeping elevate the head of the bed for at least six to eight inches. Try to sleep with an elevated head and shoulders through a wedge pillow. Through this, the gravity will work as much that it will keep the acids in your stomach in their place-in the stomach, not in the esophagus. Try to consult physicians to gain additional knowledge on how to relieve nighttime heartburn.

• Don’t wear tight fitting clothes. Tightness around the waist and stomach will trigger heartburn as it causes uneasiness.

• When bending, do it at the knees, not at the waist. This will avoid in creating too much pressure in the stomach.

• Don’t slouch; rather sit erect in a relaxing chair.

• Maintain a sensible amount of weight, too much weight and fatness will give more stress in your stomach. As a result, this will force stomach contents throughout the LES and to the esophagus. Stay with your doctors guidelines.

• Avoid smoking. Doctors stated that smoking could cause several effects to a pregnant woman, much that it can add to the possibility of experiencing heartburn.

Chronic heartburn is a common complaint and the pharmaceutical industry has made a fortune providing medications such as Prilosec, Nexium, Zantac and other antacids. In this article we explore whether it is possible to get effective natural relief from chronic heartburn.

Almost everyone has suffered from heartburn at some time in their lives and experienced the painful burning and nauseous sensation which is distinctly uncomfortable. So, we must sympathise with the folk who suffer from chronic heartburn, where the distress can become intolerable.

So what is heartburn?

Quite simply, heartburn, or acid reflux is caused when the stomach contents, which are highly acidic, flow back into the esophagus or food pipe. It is the acidity which causes the burning pain because, while the lining of the stomach is capable of handling the acids, the delicate esophagus lining is not.

When this occurs only occasionally there is no problem other than temporary discomfort. However, when acid reflux occurs regularly, the esophagus lining can become severely attacked and this can result in permanent damage and even esophogeal cancer.

So, what can be done to remedy the problem?

Apart from prescribed medication, there are numerous natural remedies available from simple “home remedies” to basic lifestyle changes. If the problem is not too serious, these, or combinations of them can actually cure the complaint.

But what can you do if the problem persists?

Of course, when any medical problem persists, one should always seek medical advice.

However, there is a growing school of thought, which believes that treating heartburn with prescription drugs will only give temporary relief because it is only the symptoms of the problem that are addressed and not the root cause.

Heartburn results from the combination of a number of factors and if you are to get complete relief from chronic heartburn then you need to tackle each one of these factors. In other words the entire complex “internal environment” causing the heartburn must be treated and you must approach the problem as a whole i.e. holistically.

Consequently, following years of research, a number of programs are now available, that have achieved great success in giving people an opportunity to get permanent natural relief from chronic heartburn and give them their lives back.

Surely this must be worth consideration?

Acid Reflux

Acid reflux, also known as “reflux esophagitis”, is an inflammation of the esophagus caused by regurgitation of the contents of the stomach. Acid reflux is most often recognized by its symptom of “heartburn” which reportedly affects 1 out of every 10 adults in the U.S. on a daily basis. When stomach acid leaks back up into the oesophagus, it is called acid reflux. Normally the sphincter, a muscle at the join between the oesophagus and stomach, tightens up to stop acid and food coming back up out of the stomach. Acid reflux happens when the sphincter does not work very well, or when the stomach is very full (for example, after a large meal).

Causes of Acid Reflux

Anyone who a large amount of acidic foods can have mild and temporary heartburn. This is especially true when lifting, bending over, or taking a nap after eating a large meal high in fatty, acidic foods. Persistent GERD, however, may be due to various conditions, including abnormal biologic or structural factors.Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) develops when stomach acid and juices back up, or reflux, into the esophagus, the muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach. This happens when the valve between the lower end of the esophagus and the stomach (the lower esophageal sphincter) does not close tightly enough.

Dietary and lifestyle choices may also contribute to GERD. Certain foods and beverages, including chocolate, peppermint, fried or fatty foods and coffee or alcoholic beverages, may weaken the LES, causing reflux. Additionally, studies have shown that cigarette smoking, obesity, pregnancy and asthma may also be associated with GERD.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux

Symptoms of acid reflux include heartburn (a burning feeling rising from the stomach or lower chest up towards the neck), regurgitation (food or fluid coming up into the mouth), chest pain, difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia), hoarseness, dental diseases and asthma. The primary symptom of heartburn is a burning pain in your chest, under your breastbone. This pain may worsen when you bend over, lie down or eat. It may also be more frequent or worse at night.

Treatment of Acid Reflux

Acid reflux disease treatments are broken down into lifestyle changes, over-the-counter acid reflux medicine, prescribed acid reflux medication, natural remedy for acid reflux and acid reflux surgery. If you have frequent and persistent heartburn, you may have GERD, leading to an inflamed esophagus. GERD usually requires prescription-strength medication or medical treatment and sometimes surgery.

Antacids. Antacids, such as Maalox, Mylanta, Gelusil, Rolaids and Tums, neutralize stomach acid and can provide quick relief. But antacids alone won’t heal an inflamed esophagus damaged by stomach acid. Overuse of some antacids can cause side effects such as diarrhea or constipation.

Drug Treatments

Patients with moderate to severe symptoms that do not respond to lifestyle measures or who are diagnosed at a late stage may be started on more or less or potent agents depending on complications at diagnosis. Experts argue, however, about the best way to initiate drug treatment for GERD in most of these patients.

Although taking the right herbs can limit the cause of heartburn, some will need more than herbal remedies to control acid reflux, especially if a person leads a hectic lifestyle. This is because there are often many elements to a busy persons lifestyle that encourages acid reflux and heartburn.

What aspects can be the cause of heartburn in a hectic lifestyle?

Poor eating habits – There are different elements that contribute to poor eating habits. The first is eating a diet rich in foods that have a direct link to acid reflux (I.E. fatty foods, pre-packaged foods high in additives and preservatives, alcohol, coffee, tea. Etc.). Unfortunately, many of these foods make up the regular diet of those leading a hectic lifestyle.

To make matters worse, those that are controlled by their busy schedule tend to -

- Skip meals

- Eat at irregular times

- Ingest larger portions when they do eat

- Rush down their food

- Are physically active after eating

Each of these poor eating habits can be hard on your stomach. For instance, eating large portions creates a distended stomach that is full of food. This places pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This pressure can result in stomach acid traveling back into the esophagus creating acid reflux, which can be the cause of heartburn.

Tobacco use – Tobacco can make acid reflux a more prominent problem. Nicotine is deposited in the back of the throat and can corrode the esophageal lining. Furthermore, tobacco also inhibits saliva production. Saliva is one of the body’s natural defenses against damage to the esophageal lining.

Poor sleeping habits – Lack of sleep can increase stress, and leads to the use of more caffeine stimulants such as tea, coffee and soda, which can increase the risk of acid reflux. In addition, eating before bed slows digestion. Other sleeping habits that can be the cause of heartburn includes sleeping without the proper elevation of your head (less than 6 inches) and lying on your back or stomach.

Stress – Although stress does not directly cause acid reflux it encourages the condition. The reason is because stress triggers bad habits such as eating fatty “comfort foods”, smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating late at night. Moreover, stress has been known to increase pain sensitivity.

Medications – There are a number of medications that can affect the LES and be the direct cause of heartburn. Some of these medications include -

- Tricyclic antidepressants – I.E. amitriptvlline

- NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) – I.E. aspirin, ibuprofen

- Sedatives and muscle relaxants

To add insult to injury, not only can these drugs aggravate the esophageal lining, many people ingest them without drinking a full glass of water or lie down directly after. These actions can increase acid reflux risk. Additionally, repeatedly taking antacids to cure your heartburn can lead to negative side effects including headaches and stomach distress (I.E. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation).

Here are three ways you can effectively reduce the recurrence of acid reflux in your hectic lifestyle -

1. Control your diet and don’t rush through meals – Instead of skipping meals, eating out, or making pre-packaged dinners, consider eating small portions throughout the day. Make the time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and don’t rush through your food. Also, give yourself 20 minutes after you eat to digest. Drinking water can also help aid in digestion.

2. Give up bad habits – If you smoke, regularly drink alcohol, drink excessive amounts of carbonated beverages or those that contain caffeine, it’s time to cut back or avoid these practices completely.

3. Reduce stress – Engage in regular low impact exercise such as walking, swimming and bike riding. Make sure you get a goodnight sleep and take the time to enjoy activities you like.

Despite how hectic your life may be, it is imperative that you make an effort to reduce the elements in your lifestyle that can be the cause of heartburn.

Pregnancy is considered to be a time of joy for new mothers. This is the time when they are pampered and their every wish is fulfilled (well almost every wish). There are however a few things that can cause discomfort and pain for an expectant mother. One of these is pregnancy heartburn.

The question that arises is why do some women experience heartburn while they are pregnant and other women don’t?

Heartburn occurs when the digested food juices reflux back into your esophagus and throat. There is a valve that usually keeps the stomach acids in the stomach where the intestinal lining protects your body from the effects of the acid. This valve is called the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES. When the LES relaxes, the stomach acids reflux into the esophagus. This causes the lining of the esophagus, which is thin and unable to deal with the acid, to get irritated and inflamed.

With a pregnant mother heartburn does not occur only because of the digested food juices refluxing back into the esophagus and throat. The increased amounts of hormones in the body can soften the muscles that normally keep the LES closed. Thus if the LES relaxes at an inappropriate moment, then food and gastric acid reflux back into the esophagus.

There is also another reason that might contribute to pregnancy heartburn. During pregnancy a woman’s body goes through many changes to accommodate the growing baby. As the baby continues to grow within the womb, there is pressure put upon the stomach. This pressure in turn may force the stomach acid to reflux through the LES into the esophagus. Thus causing pregnancy heartburn.

As there is no clear way to completely eliminate heartburn even during pregnancy, the most sensible approach to take is to minimize the discomfort that you may experience because of pregnancy heartburn. With a few simple precautions you can hold the heartburn at bay. Avoiding certain foods that are known to trigger heartburn can greatly reduce the chances of heartburn.

Avoid drinks containing coffee, tea, colas and alcohol as these can relax the LES and allow acid to reflux back into the esophagus. Also don’t eat large meals. Instead eat several small meals throughout the day. Take your time eating, rushing through meals helps put unwanted pressure upon the LES. You also need to drink plenty of water in small amounts throughout the day.

When you go to sleep at night, keep your head elevated higher than your body. This position will keep your stomach contents in your stomach where they belong and not in the esophagus where they will cause pregnancy heartburn. During the day you should sit upright in a comfortable chair rather than slouching.

Gain a sensible amount of weight and stay within the weight guidelines your doctor suggests. Being pregnant does not mean suffering unduly because of heartburn, rather you can think of it as a change in your lifestyle. A change for a miracle of life, not for pregnancy heartburn.
